How to minimize the risk of getting hurt playing sports!

Sports injuries happen everyday. Unfortunate circumstances happen and different situations cause chaos but what are some ways that can help prevent it? Sure you never know when or how you will or can get hurt but there are some ways to either avoid getting hurt, making an injury worse, or strengthening the body to be able to take more pressure. Here are some steps that can be taken to help prevent injuries in sports. By following each step provided should increase the chances of not getting injured. Seeing the Doctor which you must do to play sports for a “Physical” in which you must pass to even play. Building gradually! Dont test your body likes it been doing it forever. The best way to build is to gradually do more or last longer. Also dont be the tough guy and not wear the proper equipment as that is a big reason why injuries happen. Warming up and stretching is so crucial that young ages feel they dont need to. Stretching helps the muscles prepare instead of being tight and possibly pulling something and now your injured because you felt you didn’t need to. Using the right technique is crucial as well especially if you want to be the best. Having bad technique can also harm your body as well and taking breaks instead of overdoing your body is not smart. Breaks are needed just like drinking water. Also dont play when you’re injured its not the end of the world if you miss a game to let the body rest and become fully healthy again. Trust me!

Stretching is the most important part to prevent injuries when playing sports.

Cam Newton is the Quarterback for the Carolina Panthers who had injured his foot playing football. It’s a common injury for a mobile quarterback who wasn’t afraid to take shots when he was running. Zack Britton is a major league baseball reliever for the New York Yankees and was recently injured during batting practice when a line shot hit his wrist and caused him to have a bruised wrist. Serena Williams is a legend of the tennis world who had a similar story to Tiger Woods. Serena was injured but really wanted to play in one of her favorite tournaments and tries everything she could to get healthy and this is what she had to say. “…unfortunately my back is still not right and I know I should not take to the court.” This is the self control and body talk that most people don’t listen to and end up hurting themselves even more.

Conclusion: I pointed out these stories for specific reasons. Even though they aren’t the most recent each one has a powerful message that is being sent to future generations in the sports industry. You have Cam Newton seeing multiple doctors for more opinions. Klay Thompson who is anxious to play the following season after a torn ACL. but is following doctors orders. Zack Britton being unlucky and getting hurt by batting practice but now will go into the procedure of recovering instead of playing still. Tiger and Serena both doing the most important thing you can do before an injury gets worse and that’s listening to your body. I want every younger generation who plays sports to understand how powerful that is and to listen and understand these legends of the sport that its okay to miss a tournament to recover from an injury because the tournament will be there next year but you never know if your blessed enough to play the sport the next day. Take action!

Injuries shouldn’t stop you from playing the sports you love!

4 Things To Help The Body

  1. Resting! The main problem for sports injuries is that there is no rest. The body is like a car. If you run the car without getting new oil changes it will break down eventually. Same with the body. Resting is the oil you must have in order to help stay in great condition and perform at high levels.
  2. Ice the body: Ice helps in more ways than you know. Regardless if it doesn’t hurt applying ice will make the body not swell, and will help so your muscles don’t cramp as well. If you are injured applying ice should be a good first step so you keep the swelling down.
  3. Massage: Massages are underrated. You don’t really hear about it much in the sports world but believe it or not the pros actually get massages all the time. Non-Professional athletes don’t know how much massages help because they are never really told that they should do it after playing. Massages help significantly calm the muscles and relaxes the body which helps with step 1.
  4. Body control: Your body is your main factor. It tells you before something happens and it’s about catching those signs. If something doesn’t feel right the only person to prevent a serious injury is you, in other words thats the bodies sign telling you to take it a little easy if not just stop and take care of that part of the body that isn’t working properly.

Doing these 4 things will definitely help in preventing injuries while playing sports.
